Continued Coverage: US Soldiers Killed in Syria Were Members of Iowa National Guard
We continue our coverage from yesterday with an update on the two U.S. Soldiers who were shot during an ambush Saturday. Both soldiers were members of the Iowa National Guard, a senior U.S. official confirmed. Three additional U.S. soldiers were injured in the attack. President Trump confirmed the three injured soldiers are “doing well.” It is believed the gunman opened fire using an automatic weapon, and early information indicates he may have been a low-level member of the Syrian Security Forces before being affiliated with ISIS. It’s not yet clear whether or not the shooter was a member of the Syrian Security Forces at the time of the shooting Saturday.
We’ll provide more updates as they become available.
