Bondi Beach Attack:
Sunday evening two gunmen opened fire on a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach in Australia. 15 civilians were killed, and 43 people were injured including two police officers. Authorities are labeling the shooting as a terrorist attack, with Australian Prime Minister Albanese saying the two shooters were “driven by ideology.” One of the shooters, Sajid Akram, was killed on the scene, and the other was taken into custody.
Brown University Shooting:
Another shooting occurred on Saturday at Brown University in Rhode Island. 2 students were killed, and 9 others were injured and taken to a local hospital where they are believed to be stable. There is no person of interest in custody, and the manhunt is now entering its third day.
Ambush in Syria:
Two US Soldiers and a civilian interpreter were killed on Saturday in Syria when they were ambushed by a gunman. According to U.S. officials, the shooting took place at a region outside of Syrian government control. But Syrian official statements have said the shooting took place outside of a Syrian military facility. Initial reporting indicated the shooter was connected to ISIS, but Syrian authorities have been unable to confirm this. Syrian authorities were able to confirm the shooter was a member of the Syrian Security Forces, and had been identified as having extremist views prior to the shooting. He was slated for dismissal on Sunday, but it is not yet clear why his dismissal was delayed and why he was allowed near U.S. forces.
