The Latest on Venezuela

Here’s the latest on the American strike on Venezuela early this morning:

Maduro’s vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, was sworn in as interim president in Caracas, and addressed a crowd of supporters saying "There is only one president in this country, and his name is Nicolás Maduro Moros,”. The US does not seem to have a presence within Venezuela at this time, despite Trump’s assertion that the US will “run the country.”

President Trump held a press conference this morning, announcing that the US will “run the country” in the interim “until such time as we can do a safe, proper and judicious transition.” It is still unclear what this means, and the extent of a potential US occupation. Trump also said that the U.S. will be “very strongly involved” in Venezuela’s oil industry.
